Switching tools? Start with which job you are actually buying — Open Pulse
Most buyer's remorse in this category is a category error, not a vendor error.
What this page answers
What is this page about?
Every comparison in one place, sorted by the job each tool does rather than the category it markets itself into: brand monitoring, community alerting, competitive enablement, third-party intent and buying-signal detection. Including the tools that beat us.
How does Open Pulse help with this?
Open Pulse watches public conversations and job postings for the moments that mean somebody needs what you sell, and this page covers alternatives specifically. The sections below are the page in full.
How do I know which kind of tool I need?
Ask whether the people you want to reach already know your name. If they do, you want brand monitoring and the cheapest adequate option wins. If they do not, no brand monitoring tool will ever surface them, because those tools start from a string you supply and the interesting posts do not contain it.
What is the cheapest alternative?
F5Bot is free for Reddit and Hacker News keyword alerts. Among paid tools, Syften starts at $29.95 a month, Trigify at $40 and Open Pulse at $49. Brand monitoring platforms start considerably higher, with Brand24 at $249 a month.
Which tool replaced GummySearch?
Nothing replaced all of it. The monitoring half is well covered by Syften, F5Bot and similar tools; the audience-research half has no clean replacement, because it depended on the broad Reddit access that is now expensive to licence.

Overview
People arrive here having decided their current tool is not working. Usually it is working exactly as designed, and it was bought for a job it was never built to do.
So before any comparison: five different products get sold as "social listening", and the one you need is decided by one question. Do you want to hear about people who already know your name, or people who do not?
The five jobs
| The job | What you want | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Brand monitoring | Every mention of you, with volume and sentiment | Brand24, Mention, Awario |
| Community alerting | A fast cheap ping on a keyword | F5Bot, Syften |
| Developer-audience mentions | Mentions across dev and community platforms | Octolens |
| Competitive enablement | Battlecards and win-loss for reps | Klue, Crayon |
| Third-party intent | Which accounts are researching your category | Bombora, 6sense |
| Buying-signal detection | People with your problem who never said your name | Open Pulse, Trigify |
The first four assume the person already knows you exist. If your actual complaint about your current tool is "it only ever shows me people who already found us", you are in the last row and no amount of switching within the first four will fix it.
The comparisons
Each of these carries a section on where the other tool wins, because a comparison that concludes we win everything is not a comparison.
- The full roundup: fourteen tools, published prices where a vendor publishes one, and who each is genuinely the wrong purchase for.
- vs Octolens: mention monitoring against buying signals, and what per-mention metering optimises for.
- vs Common Room: detection against identity resolution. Now also what the Zoom acquisition changes.
- vs Klue: arming your reps against finding leads from a rival's churn.
- vs Trigify: preset triggers against vocabulary derived from your own site.
- vs Brand24 and Mention: why brand monitoring is not lead generation.
- Intent data vs buying signals: the distinction that decides whether an enterprise intent contract or a signal tool is the right spend.
Migrating from a tool that shut down
GummySearch closed to new signups on 30 November 2025 after failing to reach a commercial Reddit API agreement, and deletes all user data on 1 December 2026. It did two jobs (audience research and monitoring), and only one of them has a clean replacement. If you still have a login, there are two things worth exporting before that date.
What we are honestly bad at
Kept on the page people arrive at when they are shopping, rather than buried:
- Volume. One listener on Go, three on Growth, ten on Pro. If you need to watch twenty things, Octolens or Syften will do it for less.
- Contact data. We find the post and its author. We do not append an email address or a phone number.
- Identity resolution. We do not stitch a forum handle to a CRM contact.
- Source breadth. Brand24 reads far more surfaces than we do.
- Brand monitoring. We are built to discard most candidates, which is the opposite of what tracking your own name needs.

Do you publish your prices?
Yes. Go is $49 a month, Growth $149 and Pro $490, with annual options, and all open with a 14-day trial that takes a card up front. Several tools in these comparisons are quote-only, which is noted wherever it applies.
How current is the pricing in these comparisons?
Each comparison carries the date its competitor pricing was last verified, and prices are read from each vendor's own page rather than from third-party summaries. Vendors do change them, so treat a dated figure as a shape rather than a quote.
